“ Passive smoking disaster in Tokyo or Japan“ essay contest

(1) Aim of the Contest

In Japan, passive smoking kills nearly ten thousand people each year due to the lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases alone. However, policy makers are reluctant to make a comprehensive smoke-free law for the benefit of tobacco industry.

For the people visiting our country, Japanese foods may be delicious, but many restaurants, bars and “izakaya” are very smoky. We are sorry that air is still polluted by tobacco smoke.

As the host city of 2020’s Olympic Game, Tokyo has to become a comprehensively smoke-free city in a few years.

We would like to hear your experience and opinion about passive smoking exposure during your stay in Japan. Your voice would accelerate the implementation of smoke-free law in our country．

受動喫煙被害に関するエッセイコンテスト

≪日本禁煙学会「2015世界禁煙デー」特別企画≫

１．コンテストの目的

　日本では、受動喫煙によって、毎年約1万人が肺がんや心臓病で死亡しています。しかし、行政担当者はタバコ産業の利益を考えて統括的な禁煙法制定を渋っています。

　日本を訪問する人びとにとって、日本食はおいしいと思いますが、多くの

レストラン、バー、居酒屋はタバコの煙だらけです。日本の空気は、未だに

タバコの煙で汚染されているので申し訳ない気持ちです。

2020年のオリンピック大会の主催都市として、東京はここ数年のうちに

完全無煙都市とならねばなりません。そこで、皆さまが日本に滞在中、受動喫煙にさらされた体験談、ご意見などを伺いたいと思っております。皆さまからの声によって、日本における禁煙法制定が推進されることでしょう。

２．申請方法

1. Ａ４サイズ1〜2頁で、テキストファイルかワードでE-メールで送ること。

2. 言語：英語あるいは日本語

3．送り先：desk@nosmoke55.jp

4．国籍、日本滞在期間、自国住所、名前、年齢、仕事、E-メールアドレスを記載。（応募者は外国人、あるいは在外居住経験がある日本人に限る．日本在住でなくても、日本に来たり住んだりしたことがある人．）

ただし、ペンネームを使いたい方は、ペンネームを記載してください。
